Press: Cut and run, the only brave thing to do

Cut and Run, the Only Brave Thing to Do - by Michael Moore: "Tomorrow [Nov. 28] marks the day that we will have been in Iraq longer than we were in all of World War II.

That's right. We were able to defeat all of Nazi Germany, Mussolini, and the entire Japanese empire in LESS time than it's taken the world's only superpower to secure the road from the airport to downtown Baghdad.

And we haven't even done THAT. After 1,347 days, in the same time it took us to took us to sweep across North Africa, storm the beaches of Italy, conquer the South Pacific, and liberate all of Western Europe, we cannot, after over 3 and 1/2 years, even take over a single highway and protect ourselves from a homemade device of two tin cans placed in a pothole. [...]

It is a lost war, lost because it never had a right to be won, lost because it was started by men who have never been to war, men who hide behind others sent to fight and die."

(I don't care if you get apopletic over Moore or disagree with this editorial, but read his points about how the French aided America in its Revolution, they are cogent.)

Weather: It's 34 degrees, woo-hoo!

Walking Twerpette this morning, I figured it is 34 degrees outside. (Even without last night's wind, it felt nippier, and the water puddle in the library driveway had not frozen.) I checked -- sure enough!

Weather: It's 37 degrees all right

Walking the Twerpette (she of the frigid tatas), I figured it is 37 degrees outside (and falling). Sure enough -- it is!

Musings: When someone quotes you

You know all those wise (or cutesy) quotations that people include in their email signatures? I just discovered that someone (Ray Ingles) quoted me (from ComputerUser in 1995) on a technical support forum in 1998:

"No one - I repeat, no one - is making money on the Web. Yet." Steve Deyo, 1995

Words: mojo

Press: Behind Vince Guaraldi's timeless holiday soundtrack - NPR

"On Tuesday night, CBS airs what is now a holiday tradition: the animated special A Charlie Brown Christmas, which first aired in 1965. The show's jazzy soundtrack is a familiar holiday staple, too -- but Vince Guaraldi's classic score almost never made it on the air."

Email: People of facets [KF]

I write emails whenever I can, usually in spurts. (What is it about men and spurts?)

I think I'm a mystery only in that I have facets when people expect a two-dimensional mirror.

Email: Parity in dating [KF]

It's amazing the difference it does make in a man to have plenty of steady work. (What is it about men needing an outlet?)
